BIM Shifts Toward a Connected Data Architecture
June 5, 2026 · 1 min read

The Revit model will no longer be treated as the single source of information. It will become one component within an environment that includes:
- CDEs;
- databases;
- cloud platforms;
- ERP and project management systems;
- fabrication data;
- coordination history;
- field data;
- asset management systems.
This shift will favor persistent identifiers, APIs, knowledge graphs, and authoring-software-agnostic data models.
In other words, the question won’t just be “Where is the object located in the model?” but also “What requirements, activities, costs, documents, equipment, and decisions is this object connected to?”
